Tour de Ruck 2015

When a handful of rugby players from Cirencester got together last year to remember a close friend who sadly lost his battle against cancer, something special was started...

How it started...

For the friends he left behind, RUCK OFF CANCER – The Ride, The Run, was an incredibly important opportunity to remember Ashley Scrivens, pay tribute to him and raise some money for what might, one day, help find a cure for cancer.

RUCK OFF CANCER founding members Rory McCarthy, Josh Brierley and Scott Brandreth.

A gruelling 425 mile cycle ride to ten of the country’s Aviva Premiership clubs was followed by a full marathon in just five days finishing at Twickenham in November. The boys set themselves a target of raising £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.

With the help of family, friends, clubmates and local businesses, they smashed their target raising more than £20,000.

Their achievement earned them recognition from the RFU and a community rugby accolade in the form of a Rugby Writers’ Award.

This year, they’re doing it all over again – Only the challenge is even tougher and they’re calling on the help of the wider rugby community for RUCK OFF CANCER – Tour de Ruck 2015.

Tour de Ruck 2015

In a year that marks the biggest occasion in world rugby, the RUCK OFF CANCER team is extending an invitation to the wider rugby community to get involved in their challenge this year.

While the total cycling challenge takes in 700 miles over ten days, to make it more manageable, riders can get involved in just one or more legs to support RUCK OFF CANCER in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Starting at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on 3 September, riders head south towards the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff over the course of the next seven days. The challenge finishes at Twickenham in London on 12 September. The ten legs range in distance between 90km and 140km.

Participants are being encouraged to join the Cirencester Rugby Club riders in challenging themselves to complete a day or more to raise as much money and awareness as possible for CRUK.

Each rider joining the Tour de Ruck 2015, will be required to raise £200 for each leg/day they wish to ride. A JustGiving page is now live so you can start raising money for the day or days you wish to ride. The page has been set up so each rider can have their own individual page to raise their own amount for their ride. Details on how to register through JustGiving are provided below.
